Business Descriptions For Your Google My Business Listing Have Arrived

What a glorious day, you are now able to add a business description to your Google My Business listing.

This new feature was announced by Google on Twitter four days ago, and unless you work with hotels (from the thread it appears that industry isn’t supported as of right now), you should be delighted.

To add a description to your listing simply log in to your Google My Business dashboard, select “info” and scroll down until you see the “add business description” field. Select the pencil to edit, write something to catch the eye of a prospective customer or target user, and you’re good to go.

Here is what the new field looks like:

After you’re done and the update has been approved you can do a branded search and find the new description towards the bottom of your company’s knowledge panel. Here’s what it looks like on the front end:

As with any of their products, Google has specific guidelines about best practices for this new addition, but the main mistake to avoid is the addition of links. Those are a no go.

But other than that, make sure to write with your target audience in mind, use all 750 characters available to you, and most importantly, be compelling and unique with your offering.

If all of this sounds like a drag, feel free to get in touch and we’ll be happy to take care of this and any other part of your SEO campaign for you from now on.
